Reuters – Meryl Streep, who holds the record with 17 for the most Academy Award nominations by any actor, won the Oscar for best lead actress on Sunday for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.”

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Meryl Streep, who holds the record with 17 for the most Academy Award nominations by any actor, won the Oscar for best lead actress on Sunday for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.” It was Streep’s third Academy Award, but her first since winning the Oscar for “Sophie’s Choice” in 1982. She was also honored for the 1979 film “Kramer vs. Kramer,” and had long been considered overdue for another Academy Award

Reuters – If ever there was a match seemingly made in neo-grindhouse heaven, it would be a collaboration between directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the guys behind the exhilaratingly all-bets-are-off “Crank” franchise, and actor Nicolas Cage, a man determined to star in as many ludicrous B-movies as possible in a quest to make every single Academy Award voter rue the day they ever gave him an Oscar.

AP – Eiko Ishioka, a bold, Academy Award-winning visual artist whose surreal and sensual costumes were worn by Broadway actors, Olympic athletes, Cirque du Soleil performers and movie stars like Jennifer Lopez, has died in Tokyo. She was 73.
