LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Pop star Whitney Houston died of accidental drowning due to the effects of cocaine use and heart disease, a Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman said on Thursday. The 48-year-old singer, who spent years battling addiction to drugs including cocaine, was found submerged in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel room on February 12, the eve of the Grammy Awards

‘Desperate Housewives’ trial: jury ‘hopelessly deadlocked’

LOS ANGELES, March 16 (TheWrap.com) – Nicollette Sheridan’s wrongful termination trial has gone into extra innings with jurors saying they are “hopelessly deadlocked.” The jury of nine women and three men failed to reach a verdict on Friday after a second day of deliberations, pushing the trial into yet another week when it resumes Monday. The jury, which is split 8-4 on the verdict, sent a note to Judge Elizabeth Allen White saying that they are “hopelessly deadlocked.” “I know how frustrating this process is for you,” White told the jury.

Whitney Houston leaves fortune to daughter

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Whitney Houston, who died suddenly last month in a Beverly Hills hotel room, has left her fortune to her 19-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, according to the singer’s will. Under terms of the will filed late on Wednesday in Atlanta, funds from the singer’s estate will be put in a trust to benefit her daughter. The young woman will get part of the principal when she turns 21, more money at age 25 and the balance when she celebrates her 30th birthday
