NEW YORK (TheWrap.com) – Jonathan Frid, who played vampire Barnabas Collins on the cult classic TV show “Dark Shadows,” has died. He was 87. Frid died just weeks before the release of a feature film adaptation of the show starring Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton

Mandela archives, letters and notes go online

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – Thousands of letters, photographs and documents relating to former South African President Nelson Mandela went online on Tuesday in a project aimed at increasing access to the archives which detail his long walk to freedom. Items including letters Mandela wrote to his family that were smuggled out of prison, his Methodist church membership card from about 80 years ago and hand-written diaries have been digitized and laid out on a website (archive.nelsonmandela.org) designed to look like a museum exhibit. …

Berenstain Bears creator dies, age 88

(Reuters) – Jan Berenstain, who along with her husband Stan created the popular children’s books about the family of lovable “Berenstain Bears,” has died in Philadelphia, her publisher said on Monday, after suffering a stroke late last week. She was 88. “We are all deeply saddened to share with you the news that Jan Berenstain, surviving member of one of the greatest teams in all children’s literature – Stan and Jan Berenstain – passed away last Friday,” publisher Random House said in a statement.
