Strauss-Kahn accuser adds new claim to lawsuit

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Lawyers for the hotel maid who accused Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault added another claim to her civil lawsuit against him Tuesday, taking advantage of a little-used New York City law that applies to “gender-motivated violence.” In the amended lawsuit, Nafissatou Diallo claims the former International Monetary Fund chief targeted her out of misogyny under a local law known as the Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – A New York judge is expected to rule next Tuesday whether to toss out a civil lawsuit against former International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn brought by the hotel maid who accused him of sexually assaulting her. A spokesman for the court system, David Bookstaver, said the decision will be released on Tuesday morning. The ruling had initially been expected at the end of this week

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Actor-director Mel Gibson is putting his sprawling hilltop compound in Costa Rica up for sale, with a $29.75 million asking price, . The Oscar-winning “Braveheart” director, who has suffered a series of public embarrassments in recent years after a decades-long reign as a top box office star, is selling the 500-acre compound to downsize his real estate portfolio following his divorce. Christie’s International Real Estate, the luxury real estate firm, was set to announce the offering on Friday.

German director wins prestigious Ibsen theatre prize

BERLIN (Reuters) – German director Heiner Goebbels on Tuesday scooped Norway’s International Ibsen Award, the most valuable theatre prize in the world, for his pioneering work in musical theatre. Goebbels will claim the award, named after 19th century Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, later in the year along with 2.5 million Norwegian crowns ($437,200)– which the organizers said was the largest amount of prize money for any theatre award on the planet. ..
