Robert De Niro apologizes for "white first lady" joke

(Reuters) – Actor Robert De Niro on Wednesday apologized for joking at a Democratic fundraiser with Michelle Obama about the possibility of having a “white first lady” at the White House after November’s presidential elections. The Oscar-winning star of “The Godfather: Part II” and “Raging Bull” said he had intended no offense with the remark about the wives of Republican presidential contenders Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney. “My remarks, although spoken with satirical jest, were not meant to offend or embarrass anyone — especially the first lady,” De Niro said in a statement.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Betty White, the 90-year-old queen of comedy, remained the star with the most audience appeal in 2011 while cross-dressing Tyler Perry of the “Madea” films suffered a setback in a new celebrity poll on Thursday. The survey from Encino, California-based E-Poll Market Research showed “Hot in Cleveland” star White was the most liked Hollywood celebrity in its survey covering calendar year 2011, a spot she also held in 2010. Obama, Cartoon Network target bullying in documentary

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama appears in an upcoming Cartoon Network documentary aimed at encouraging bullied children and others to speak up, and says that as the father of two young girls he is deeply concerned about the issue. In an introduction to the 30-minute film, the president appeals to students, parents and teachers to take a stand on bullying.
